New Wawa unit planned
for Concord Pike location

A Wawa gasoline station and convenience store would replace the hotel and restaurant at the busy intersection of Concord Pike with Silverside and Garden of Eden Roads under a redevelopment plan filed with county government and presented to the public at a meeting convened on May 18 by County Councilman Robert Weiner. Leslie Morgan, who owns the property and has operated the 142-room hotel for many years, told residents of the area that she has agreed to lease about half of the four acre site to Wawa and is negotiating with potential lessees for the remainder. Residents of the area were mainly concerned about the proposed traffic access configuration which, some said, would increase congestion at the intersection and encourage shortcutting through Tavistock.
