Yard waste dump still
a 'work-in-progress'

The proposed new site for dumping yard waste in Brandywine Hundred remains on hold long after the public was told it would be ready in time to catch falling autumn leaves. "Our environmental investigation ... uncovered environmental issues that need to be addressed before the site can be opened," Debra Nielsen, an engineer with the Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control, told Delaforum. She gave no indication what, if anything, may be happening in that regard other than to say, "Addressing these issues is requiring both time and money." Meanwhile, Holland Mulch, a firm adjacent to the site just outside the Du Pont Co. Edgemoor plant gate on Hay Road accepts material, free of charge, from individual householders during weekday business hours.
