County opts to put library
on Childrens Home site

County government evidently will reject the offer of a free site in Darley Green and buy the unused site of the former Childrens Home on Green Street to be the location for a new Claymont public library. Anne Farley, general manager of the Department of Community Services, told Delaforum that negotiations are under way with Catholic Charities, a Diocese of Wilmington unit, to acquire the property. Price will be determined following an independent assessment of its value and paid as part of the federally-financed neighborhood stabilization program, she said. The 13.6 acre site is preferable to a single acre in the mixed residential and commercial neighborhood and its redevelopment will allay community concerns about vandalism and other problems, she said.
